Josh Wackler
***ENDORSED BY AMBY BURFOOT, AUTHOR AND BOSTON MARATHON CHAMPION: "Reading Wackler is like running a marathon. You don't know what the next mile will bring, but the process is the meaning and the reward. My advice? Get to the starting line of In My Shoes, and start turning the pages."

Being the size of a linebacker and not having any major life altering events to provide a cliché “comeback story,” Josh Wackler is the most unlikely person to write a book about life and running. However, everyone, runners and non-runners alike, will smile, laugh and cry at this unlikely runner and author’s inspirational life lessons, all of which parallel lessons observed while committing the simple act of running. Throughout every chapter, each of which contains a lesson in life and running, Josh shares heart breaking stories of using running to help him through loss, inspirational thoughts regarding the Boston Marathon bombing, humorous stories about battling angry geese while running, and everything in between. Whether you’re a seasoned marathoner or someone who prefers to admire marathoners from home, you will truly enjoy Josh’s unique perspective on all things running…and all things life.

BOOKSHELF STAPLE

This book takes a different perspective of running. It’s not your technical book about running but more the life changing aspect of running. What gets you into the world of running, why do you keep running, and what are the life lessons to be learned from running. This book will definitely impact your life in a positive way, with a few tears to be shed. Amazing and highly recommend! Even if you are not a runner, I recommend this book just for a different perspective on life that makes you think!!

This book should be required reading for all.

Great Read; for runners, for everyone! This book covers the finer points of being a good human with humor and vivid story telling. Josh Wackler writes like he's talking to a friend, so when he points out the less than exceptional traits humans share it's easy to put yourself in his shoes and grow from his wisdom. I recommend this for anyone training to run long distances or just looking to overcome life's obstacles, there is something for everyone.

A great book, especially for a beginner runner

This is an excellent book about running, focusing on the mindset and life impacts of the sport. I wish I had this book when I was training for my first marathon in 2014. The author has many heartfelt stories from his years and many races, and he covers not just the highs of running, but what can go wrong and how to recover. A great book about running and life. Evan

A book for everyone. Loved it. A well-worth-it read!

I happened upon this book and found myself loving it. Confession: I'm not a big reader or runner (although I run a little to keep in shape). But I loved Wackler’s simplistic, “just tell it like it is” approach to life … and writing. He doesn’t claim to be some hoity toity author; in fact, he goes out of his way to say he’s not a writer at all. His only claim: that he’s an imperfect guy who’s learned a lot over the years about becoming a better human being, and how running has positively contributed to his ongoing pursuit. Whether you run or not, I highly recommend this book. It’s a quick read that will give you valuable, personal insights into how you live your life.

Uplifting guide to running and life.

Although I am not much of a runner, I have recently signed up for a 5k. Interestingly this book became available about that time. It does teach you about running. However we should probably use the title of 'an unlikely runner's guide to life... and running'. The life lessons are spot on. Some make you smile and some bring a tear to your eye. I will write another review on the running aspect later but the rest is sincere and heart felt. It can be used for anyone regardless of your interest in running. Great work Josh. Mark A.

Great motivational and inspirational read for runners and non-runners alike!

This book is not only a great inspirational read, but the book flows really well from one chapter to the next. If you're wanting to get into running, are already an experienced runner, or just looking for a great read then I highly recommend this book. It's full of personal anecdotes, life lessons, and reflective material that anyone from any walk of life can appreciate. Josh brings you into his life and his story and tells his tale in an interesting way that hits home in a lot of ways, while at the same time has plenty of comical relief.

I’m not a runner but...

Josh Wackler is an amazing story teller. This is a very inspiring novel about life. A must read for anyone.

A Great Read

As a longtime runner, nothing in this book surprised me. Yet I keep finding myself picking it up and flipping to through to remind myself of the authors advice, stories and insights. If I had any facility with technology, I would immediately program his recommended playlist directly into my ears. Lots of good stuff packed into a quick read.

Little did I know

I ordered this book because I knew the author and I myself am a runner. But let me preface that I do not like reading! Once I opened this book I read it from front to back! On Sunday I had just run another half marathon and had a PR (slow for some, fast for others)! This book helped me understand why I run!
